Collin Shay


Collin Shay is a French-American countertenor and multi-instrumentalist based in London.

They made their operatic debut with The Royal Opera House, London, starring as Yoel in the premiere performances of Na’ama Zisser’s Mamzer | Bastard. Since then, their career has taken them to Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, Bregenzer Festspiele, Holland Festival Muziekgebouw, Manchester International Festival, Garsington Opera, Scottish Opera, the Ruhrtriennale, and in London the Barbican, the Linbury Theatre, Wigmore Hall, and the Southbank Centre. Since 2022 they have been performing their devised shows Paint Me, Mother!Orpheus Getting Married, and Arion and the Dolphin in London - their work combines storytelling with baroque music and drag.

Born in Connecticut, Shay started training as a countertenor at the age of 16 at the Juilliard School’s Pre-College Division, and later went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in music at McGill University in Montréal, Canada. After moving to London to complete postgraduate studies at the Guildhall School of Music, whereupon finishing their studies they were a Junior Artist Fellow in the historical performance department as a keyboard player.
